Soy candles are candles made from soy wax, which is a processed form of soybean oil. They are usually container candles, because this wax typically has a lower melting point temperature than traditional waxes, but can also be made into pillar candles if certain additives are mixed into the soy wax.

In candle making circles there are mixed views and feelings about the relative merits of soy and paraffin wax.

The supporters of soy wax will argue that soy candles are cheap compared with their only real natural wax rival – beeswax. Soy wax is a new alternative to paraffin which is not only cost effective but is also made from a renewable source.

Soy wax is all-natural (apart from the necessary additives, of course, which may or may not be natural!) This new wax is a favorite of environmentally-conscious people because it is not made from petroleum, like paraffin candles. Burning of soy candles does not increase the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere.

There are claims that soy candles can last up to 50% longer than paraffin candles. This has never been properly tested and as there are so many variables it remains debatable. Most candle makers will know that the speed at which a candle burns down can depend very much on the size and type of wick used – larger wicks generally give a fiercer and more quickly burning candle.

Being small (toddlers) gives them the dexterity to just do about anything without the accompanying supervision that much older children have to go through. Typically, these kids are taught pre-school coloring and because a box of crayons is supplied, coloring with crayons not only find its way on paper and other related media but also lands on desktops, walls, floors and even sidewalks.

Coloring with crayons is one pre-school activity that children enjoy the most. Through the use of colors, the capacity to express artistic inclinations is develop at an early age. Given a box of crayons, a child will pick the color that appeals to his/her innate artistic ability and thereafter fuel the urge to create images. So what properties of this art implement would best serve the interest of preschool kids in terms of safety and the aspect of stains?

All natural formula. Crayon sticks are manufactured from a mixture of wax and dye. But wax has to be heated up to around 105 degrees Fahrenheit in order to transform it into liquid form. Once liquid, dye or pigment is added to give crayon its color before pouring it into molds of particular form and shape that appeal to children. Paraffin wax is typically used in the composition of crayon, a natural (organic) waxy substance developed from plants, coal and petroleum.

Non-Toxic. Special pre-school coloring crayon sticks developed for children have ingredients concocted entirely from soybeans grown in the United States. Dyes and pigments are as well made from natural mineral powders that make these crayons non-toxic. These crayons are really devised safe for children. Being natural, crayon sticks do not produce any adverse side effects even if swallowed or eaten by children out of curiosity.

Washable. Just to give parents peace of mind, modern day pre-school coloring crayons are washable. This only means that children can express their curiosity by writing on the floors, walls, ceilings or furniture and what have you – without remorse because markings are washable. Washable crayon markings leave no trace behind as well as stain on affected areas.

Typically, a box of crayons contains 8 sticks of different colors and shaped like elongated small cylinders that children can easily hold on to. Other packs are bundled with 16 sticks because shades of the original 8 are added to make coloring with crayons much more interesting. And since kids are bubbly and curious to try new horizons, pre-school coloring crayons will add more meaning to their experience.

When it comes to looking for the best Nerf gun there are a lot of options to wade through. One blaster has quickly become a favorite among casual Nerf users and serious collectors. This is the Vulcan Nerf gun. Kids of all ages love this toy and I know several adults who own more than one. Here are the details to this high performing toy.

The Nerf Vulcan comes equipped with a tripod to make it extra stable during battle and increase the accuracy of the darts. This tripod is removable and is very quick to implement or put away when it is time to escape. The real appeal of the Vulcan is that it is a fully automatic weapon. Pull the trigger and it fires 25 sonic darts automatically through the 25 dart belt feed. This makes it possible to fire 25 darts in around 10 seconds. The darts will fly up to 30 feet, as well.

If you want to conserve ammunition, it is possible to shoot one dart at a time. Shooting single shots will allow for more accuracy when precision is important. To send the opponents running for cover just hold the trigger and send three darts flying toward your target every second. During a Nerf war, the fire power of the Vulcan is difficult to match and defend.

The sheer size of the Vulcan Nerf gun makes it a sight to be seen. Opponents will notice the size immediately. This size makes you assume that it would be difficult to man oeuvre. The truth is that while it is not quite as mobile as some of the smaller Nerf guns, it is still fairly easy to get around while toting the Vulcan. Your extra fire power will give you some extra space to make your move, also.

Purchasing a few extra ammo packs is probably a good idea considering how easily darts can come up missing and it is difficult to keep track of 25 when they are being fired at such a rapid rate.

For those that are concerned about safety, the Nerf Vulcan gun is very safe to use. It is safe for children of all ages. All of the darts that Nerf uses are made out of foam. There are darts with suction cups on the end and darts that whistle as they fly. Even with the small rubber tips, the darts are painless at any distance. There are safety glasses available if eye protection is a concern of yours.

With easy crafts for kids you want to keep your toddlers busy but not have it cost a fortune. Well with these easy crafts your kids can do them for hardly anything or even completely free. So take a look below at some of these simple to do kids crafts.

Rock painting for kids

A real simple old fashioned craft for kids to enjoy. Why not on your next walk in the country or even just around the neighborhood. Keep a look out for some medium size stones or pebbles. Collect these up and take them home. Then outside lay the rocks out and get a bucket of water and a small brush. Then get your kids to clean them up and lay them out to dry.

Then later your toddlers can use kids acrylic paints to paint some designs on them. They could simply put spots on them or even suggest they do one with stripes and a few spots. This craft activity with the walk and the cleaning. Then the painting could occupy them for a good part of the day.

Make a collage picture

Now this a really simple one for a child of any age. Save a breakfast cereal packet. Then cut out one side of the box and use it gray side up for the base of the collage. Next collect together all sorts of odd and ends. Old magazines that can have pictures cut out. Bits of ribbons, old buttons. Bits of cotton wool odd bits of fabric, basically anything that is not too heavy.

Then place all your items onto the table around your collage base. Then give you toddler glue stick(the kind that winds up like a lipstick). Then tell them to do some cutting and sticking (let them use child friendly scissors). You may need to help them cut things like the fabric. There you have it a really great way for your little one to be really creative. also to work on their motor skills using the glue stick and scissors.

Paper plate faces

Most of us with kids have paper plates at home from parties of one kind or another. So give a plate to your toddler and ask them to make it in to a face of someone they know. We have used pipe cleaners and different size buttons and some old ribbon amongst other things to make the eyes, nose, mouth and ears. You can also use knitting wool to create the hair. Anything can be used as long as it will stick. So why not give this a try and see how much your little one enjoys making a paper face.

Important Point

With all toddler crafts you must supervise at all times. One to stop them sticking glue everywhere. Far more importantly to stop them putting small items into their mouths and swallowing. This could very easily lead to your child choking. So only get involved with craft activities with very young children when you have the time to watch over them. They will also want you to share this kind of activity with anyway.
